What is Thai Massage

Nuad Boran is the Thai expression for an ancient healing art relating healthy functioning to a balanced and unrestricted flow of vital energies throughout the body through pathways called sen lines (a similar concept to the meridians in Traditional Chinese Medicine) which dates back 2500 years and has roots in Ayuvedic medicine and Buddhism.

Nuad Boran translates as Traditional Thai Massage, although the Western meaning of the word "massage" is misleading, hence our preference for the term "bodywork".

Sometimes referred to as "passive yoga", this holistic therapy is applied to all areas of the body to achieve the desired healing effect. Keeping constant contact with the recipient, the practitioner uses gravity and bodyweight. Through t'ai chi style moves, rhythmic motion, palming and thumbing, the body is compressed, pulled, stretched and rocked in order to clear energy line blockages, and restore the flow of energy around the body. Treatments effects are enhanced by complete relaxation and deep breathing.

Prevention & Self-Healing

Thai Bodywork is used to restore health, maintain well-being and improve the quality of life. It maintains healthy function through assisting the lymphatic flow, eliminating toxins from tissues and thereby boosting the immune system. The deep compressions and stretches support the circulatory system by supplying more blood and oxygen to the muscles and internal organs. The effects are cumulative and encourage a powerful process of recuperation. The assisted yoga stretches and opening effect of this bodywork balance the nervous system, release stored physical and emotional tension.
